Our MyPrivateProxy review revealed some very concerning information right off the bat. Make sure you read our review before purchasing.

Our MyPrivateProxy Review did not get very far due to a concerning product they offer. We are neither attorneys, nor are we judges, but we do have some concerns about MPP offering products specifically geared toward usage for a case that we don’t believe is legal. For this reason, its raised concerns for us in general and cannot recommend them.

MyPrivateProxy Review: Ticketing Proxies

When reviewing MyPrivateProxies “Private Proxies” page, we found this offer for “MPP Ticketmaster” at $390/month.

Ticketmaster Proxies MyPrivateProxy Review

Then, a MyPrivateProxies review of the “Dedicated Proxies” page, we found an entire section for Ticketing Proxies.

Ticketing Proxies MyPrivateProxy Review

This is concerning because the way the US Federal government, in particular the FTC and DOJ have handled the use of proxies in relation to event ticket purchasing. In various enforcement actions levied in 2021, under the BOTs Act, the FTC clarified existing law to indicate that the use of proxies for purchasing event tickets is a violation of the Act.

In one of the Enforcement Actions, the FTC stated:

In many instances, between January 1, 2017 and the present date, Defendants have taken steps to conceal their IP address when making ticket purchases. For example, at times, Defendants used rotating proxy services and IP address blocks. These services allowed Defendants to hide their actual IP address from Ticketmaster and instead use a proxy IP address or the IP address of a computer or network that belongs to someone else.

  1. Between January 1, 2017 and the present date, Defendants have used over 19,000
different IP addresses while making purchases on Ticketmaster’s websites.
  2. Defendants hid their true IP addresses from Ticketmaster because they believed it
would allow them to circumvent technological controls on Ticketmaster’s websites.
  3. By hiding their true IP addresses from Ticketmaster, Defendants have
circumvented security measures, access control systems, or other technological controls or measures on Ticketmaster’s websites that were used by Ticketmaster to enforce posted event ticket purchase limits, or to maintain the integrity of posted online ticket purchasing order rules.

While many people regularly use VPNs or one or two proxies for everything they do, we believe the message from the FTC was pretty clear in expanding the guidance on the BOTs Act that using proxies to conceal your IP address to circumvent security measures on a ticketing web site is not allowed.

Based on this, we don’t want to touch it with a 10 foot pole, so to speak. We will note, however, that some proxy companies have gone so far as to state up front in their marketing materials that ticketing use cases are banned. This is good for the industry because it shows regulators we can be self policing. We know this means lost revenue, but the power of the statement from these companies that will not allow is that much stronger because of the lost revenue.

We are not using this MyPrivateProxy review to accuse the company of violating the law. It’s possible they only provide these products to customers in countries that don’t have similar laws in theory. We have no firsthand knowledge of their operations. However, we can’t verify what they do behind the scenes, so, out of an abundance of caution, we are taking the stance that a company offering a product that, even if only if in appearance, could be promoting illegal activity, it raises questions about whether it is a safe company to partner with or use. We are simply not recommending or partnering with them.

1. What is the Review Score?

The Review Score is a proprietary analysis that takes into account both objective and subjective inputs from three sources: the proxy provider, our review process and customers of the proxy company.

2. Why is it Important?

The primary reason is safety. We put a lot of effort into trying to identify providers who might be up to nefarious things. There are too many horror stories out there of providers who disappeared overnight and / or were doing nefarious things on their network. Once a safety baseline is established (generally a score of over 80), you can use the Review Score to assess potential providers based on the things that matter to you.

3. How You Should Use it?

The Review Score is not a be-all, end-all. If you are comparing providers that have a score of 92 and 95, you should not use the score to 'break the tie'. You should instead focus on the specific features and needs you have. The Review Score, however, is a good way to think of different classes of providers. And sometimes a lower review score might be better. If you are looking for cheap proxies and don't care about speed or other issues, then you don't need the blue chips. That's ok. The Review Score is one data point you should use in making your decisions.

4. How is it Calculated?

Good question! We're not telling. :) However, we say that trust is the most important thing. Using a proxy service has risks when you don't know what the company behind it is up to. We're trying to vet out the bad actors for you.

Customer reviews

Negative feedback we’ve heard from users centered primarily around billing confusion in which customers felt they were overbilled.
Positive feedback centers around positive experiences with customer support, good integrations with tools such as anti-detect browsers and a good ratio of price to performance. Customers seem to be happy with how the proxies perform at that price point.
