Databay was established in 2023 and is a new player. Therefore, there’s not a lot we can say or verify regarding user experience or quality of their network in our Databay Review. With limited customer input, users seem to be pretty happy with the Databay proxy service.
If you want to be among their first group of brand ambassadors, you will be rewarded with lower than normal pricing on residential proxy plans. At just $5 / GB, their pay as you go 1 GB residential proxy plan is one of the lowest get in prices we have seen for residential proxies. With other providers you have to commit to larger plans (more in the range of 50 GB to hundreds of GB). You can use rotating IP addresses or sticky IP addresses.
The public API documentation is expansive and allows you to assess whether their service is going to work for more complex integrations you would like to make. For a young company, the power of their API is impressive.
It’s not overly concerning, given Databay’s young age, that there is a low internet presence. When we look at trust factors with proxy service providers, we consider how out in the open the company is and how they approach their legal obligations.
In this sense, we like that Databay uses real names in our (admittedly limited) experience with them and that they are a bona fide registered business (in France). They make it easy for you to contact them through phone, email or snail mail.
DataBay has a Service Level Agreement published on their web site which not all proxy companies have. This kind of transparency and commitment to users is a great sign.
Databay has a public API so you can review what’s possible and assess whether your integration will work before signing up.
Though Databay has a low presence on the Internet, they put their contact information, including phone number, front and center on all pages of their web site. Along with the fact that they are an actual registered company, this helps us feel more secure about working with them.
Databay has simple pricing that allows you to more easily predict your proxy costs. They simply charge by the amount of traffic you use without extra fees for the number of IPs.
DataBay does not have a strong on-line presence. Although reviews of their service are generally positive, there’s just not a lot out there.
1. What is the Review Score?
The Review Score is a proprietary analysis that takes into account both objective and subjective inputs from three sources: the proxy provider, our review process and customers of the proxy company.
2. Why is it Important?
The primary reason is safety. We put a lot of effort into trying to identify providers who might be up to nefarious things. There are too many horror stories out there of providers who disappeared overnight and / or were doing nefarious things on their network. Once a safety baseline is established (generally a score of over 80), you can use the Review Score to assess potential providers based on the things that matter to you.
3. How You Should Use it?
The Review Score is not a be-all, end-all. If you are comparing providers that have a score of 92 and 95, you should not use the score to 'break the tie'. You should instead focus on the specific features and needs you have. The Review Score, however, is a good way to think of different classes of providers. And sometimes a lower review score might be better. If you are looking for cheap proxies and don't care about speed or other issues, then you don't need the blue chips. That's ok. The Review Score is one data point you should use in making your decisions.
4. How is it Calculated?
Good question! We're not telling. :) However, we say that trust is the most important thing. Using a proxy service has risks when you don't know what the company behind it is up to. We're trying to vet out the bad actors for you.
