Bright Data Review

Learn about why enterprises turn to this company time and again for the most complex data scraping and other proxy projects in our detailed and brutally honest Bright Data Review.

Bright Data (formerly Luminati Networks) is a company that develops tools for anonymous data collection on the internet through proxy servers. They have been around since 2014, are a household name in the industry and are leaders in the field, recently launching a new conference Initiative called ScrapeCon which brings together multi-disciplinary experts to help companies navigate the various aspects of using web scraping. Although Bright Data has emerged as an industry leader for the web scraping use case, their proxy network is used for many different use cases. Here is our full Bright Data review.

Bright Data Review: Tools

Bright Data sets itself apart with sophisticated tools and APIs to support various functions its network users might need. For example, they have a SERP API and a Web Unlocker API, but also have three more generalized tools to support web scraping: A Web Scraping API, a scraping functions IDE and a scraping browser. These tools allow users to leverage pre-built tools so they don’t have to reinvent the wheel when building their scrapers. This means faster and more reliable solutions without the institutional learning curve.

Other Extras

Bright Data has great reviews for customer support and their team is very knowledgeable about things their customers need to know beyond just how to set up their proxies. As much of their learning has been turned into ancillary products and tools, you will benefit from working with a team that understands not just how to use proxies, but how to achieve results.

Bright Data is the go to for Enterprise level solutions. One of the road blocks to using them has been their pricing. It’s a blue chip company with blue chip pricing. However, they have, over time, created more competitive pricing for smaller users. For example, their Pay As You Go plans (available for

Our Bright Data review also turned up integration guides for over 50 other tools for everything from Anti-Detect and Multi-accounting browsers to integrations at the OS level.

We research any litigation our partners are involved in to assess potential risks. We found no government actions against Bright Data. We did find private litigation with competitors in which Bright Data made claims to protect it’s IP. Independent of the results or details of the litigation, we view this as evidence that Bright Data is a company that invests in itself and is here to stay, which we view positively particularly against the backdrop of helping our users avoid fly-by-night proxy providers. Bright Data is clearly not that.

Both Meta and X have tried, unsuccessfully, to sue Bright Data related to its scraping tools and services. Bright data is not only working hard to be complaint with regulations, but they are helping to shape how those regulations are applied and interpreted. The entire industry should be thanking Bright Data and its legal team for the work they do that benefits everyone.

Many users complain about being asked by Bright Data to provide KYC information like driver’s licenses or utility bills, but we view this as a positive. It’s a sign that Bright Data takes their regulatory obligations seriously and takes pro-active steps – even if it means losing potential paying customers – to protect the integrity of the proxies it provides. A large number of bad actors on any network could make it difficult to offer working proxies, and the KYC helps avoid that situation.

A Bright Data review on pricing shows that it is geared toward enterprise and the pricing reflects that. Entry level pricing for Bright Data proxy networks has historically been too high for individuals or small teams. They do now have affordable pay as you go pricing to help smaller companies.

1. What is the Review Score?

The Review Score is a proprietary analysis that takes into account both objective and subjective inputs from three sources: the proxy provider, our review process and customers of the proxy company.

2. Why is it Important?

The primary reason is safety. We put a lot of effort into trying to identify providers who might be up to nefarious things. There are too many horror stories out there of providers who disappeared overnight and / or were doing nefarious things on their network. Once a safety baseline is established (generally a score of over 80), you can use the Review Score to assess potential providers based on the things that matter to you.

3. How You Should Use it?

The Review Score is not a be-all, end-all. If you are comparing providers that have a score of 92 and 95, you should not use the score to 'break the tie'. You should instead focus on the specific features and needs you have. The Review Score, however, is a good way to think of different classes of providers. And sometimes a lower review score might be better. If you are looking for cheap proxies and don't care about speed or other issues, then you don't need the blue chips. That's ok. The Review Score is one data point you should use in making your decisions.

4. How is it Calculated?

Good question! We're not telling. :) However, we say that trust is the most important thing. Using a proxy service has risks when you don't know what the company behind it is up to. We're trying to vet out the bad actors for you.

Legal Review

We found no government actions against Bright Data or Luminati, it’s former moniker in our Bright Data review.

Customer reviews

Negative feedback we’ve heard while doing our Bright Data review is either not credible (users seemed confused about how things should work) are focused on outright anger over their KYC process. If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it 1,000 times. KYCs are a good thing. They protect proxy networks and help the industry continue to thrive because they weed out bad actors. It would be better if Bright Data disclosed their KYC before a credit card is entered. We agree with users about that part. Positive feedback we encountered in our Bright Data review covered many aspects of the products and services but customer service was the common thing we heard about. It’s clear that users are happy with Bright Data’s efforts to work on challenging problems with them.

A Word from the Provider

Bright Data provides the full tech stack needed for organizations and professionals to build, run and scale an effective scraping operation. We’ve recently introduced anew breed of enhanced Residential proxies with built-in scraping infrastructure. Developers can easily integrate the proxy into their stack, and seamlessly deploy unlimited cloud-based browser instances optimized for scraping, with autonomous web unlocking inside.

We’ve also released a solution for Serverless Scraping, allowing teams to build and deploy scrapers on our cloud as a service, using a dedicated IDE with proprietary framework to speed up development and optimize for efficiency and performance.

Finally, we’re soon launching a wide set of scraper API – structured endpoints to easily collect data on demand from 50+ popular domains, including LinkedIn, Amazon, TikTok, Zillow, Facebook and many more. This is by far the most cost effective way to collect web data in the market today.
