Our PyProxy Review did not get very far because of some things we discovered at the outset of our investigation. Read below to learn more.

PickAProxy is funded by commissions earned when you make a purchase, at no cost to you, after clicking our links to merchant sites.

Our PyProxy Review did not get off to a good start. On the plus side, the team was helpful in providing information to us and we were able to verify their business registration so as a company they appear to be legit. Here’s our concern though. When visited their web site, both McAfee and Malwarebytes triggered warnings.

PyPoxy Review: Website Risks

When we began our PyProxy review by going to their web site, we came across something rather concerning. Two different anti-virus softwares triggered warnings and blocked the page from loading. Yikes!

McAfee said “This site looks a little risky to us” and marked the web site status as suspicious. Malwarebytes threw a pop up that said “Web site blocked due to riskware”.

For us that’s a non-starter. These warnings could be triggered for non-nefarious reasons like an expired SSL certificate or just general industry reputation that has nothing to do with the quality of the PyProxy proxies or network. We would still love to do a deeper PyProxy Review but we need to see this issue fixed first. We simply can’t recommend or promote a service where this is the starting point.

Future PyProxy Review and Ethics

It doesn’t mean there is no recovering from here for PyProxy though. We did research their company off of their web site and are encouraged that they have a business entity set up properly (registered in Hong Kong in 2022). This factor somewhat decreases the risk that they are operating in the shadows. However a properly set up business entity can still do nefarious things. (Just look at the FTX crypto exchange!)

For more information about how we apply ethical standards to our review process you can see our Ethics Policy and Disclosures. Just because we don’t recommend a proxy provider one day doesn’t mean we won’t change our stance when concerns are mitigated. In fact, it is our hope that we can help well-meaning companies improve in their deficiencies so make the entire industry a more trusted place.

At PickAProxy we believe our first duty is to our readers and not providers. That is why we do not allow proxy companies to buy higher ReviewScores or higher rankings in our ProxyMatch listings. Our scoring algorithm determines these factors and we do not consider any factors such as a providers referral commission rate in our analysis.

We do love rewarding proxy providers who go the extra mile to make the industry a better and more trusted place though, so we love when these companies make improvements that bump their review score.

1. What is the Review Score?

The Review Score is a proprietary analysis that takes into account both objective and subjective inputs from three sources: the proxy provider, our review process and customers of the proxy company.

2. Why is it Important?

The primary reason is safety. We put a lot of effort into trying to identify providers who might be up to nefarious things. There are too many horror stories out there of providers who disappeared overnight and / or were doing nefarious things on their network. Once a safety baseline is established (generally a score of over 80), you can use the Review Score to assess potential providers based on the things that matter to you.

3. How You Should Use it?

The Review Score is not a be-all, end-all. If you are comparing providers that have a score of 92 and 95, you should not use the score to 'break the tie'. You should instead focus on the specific features and needs you have. The Review Score, however, is a good way to think of different classes of providers. And sometimes a lower review score might be better. If you are looking for cheap proxies and don't care about speed or other issues, then you don't need the blue chips. That's ok. The Review Score is one data point you should use in making your decisions.

4. How is it Calculated?

Good question! We're not telling. :) However, we say that trust is the most important thing. Using a proxy service has risks when you don't know what the company behind it is up to. We're trying to vet out the bad actors for you.
